We need to make sure that the European Elections are on everyone’s radar.
I believe the issues we face are too important to get overlooked in favour of celebrity chat or tabloid trivia. We need to get the message out across Wales that for us Europe means business!
My Thoughts on Europe

Campaigning in Blaenau Gwent
with William Hague
I have always been passionate about defending and protecting the values and principles of the oldest unbroken democracy in the world and ensuring the sovereignty of a United Kingdom. So I’m baffled why some seem to be keen to cede our key decision making to Europe, especially to unelected, non-accountable bodies. At the same time I believe that there is real value in being part of the European Union, but that value is often lost in the face of bureaucracy and regulation and ‘mission creep’ at the hands of Federalists and others who are hoodwinked into believing the rhetoric.
Being part of the largest trading bloc in the world SHOULD bring huge benefits to Wales and Welsh business and can deliver in this regard IF we keep the focus on the real priorities. Pan-Europe environmental protection measures and defence of democracy and human rights throughout the world would together protect our planet and way of life for future generations. But is this the focus? No! Instead, we get plans for a President and a Foreign Minister and even greater intrusion into our lives. We gold-plate European legislation, whilst others move the goalposts.
The Lisbon Treaty presents a real threat to our liberties and democracy. We must keep up the pressure for a Referendum and raise awareness of the implications to let people decide their own future. We must keep the focus on the real priorities and hold the bureaucrats to account. For Welsh Conservatives, for us, Europe must mean business.
My priorities are:

Supporting Farmers and Local Producers
at my local Farmers’ Market
- Defending our rural community and way of life.
- Protecting our environment and addressing climate change now, before it’s too late.
- Fighting red tape that chokes business in Wales.
- Kicking into touch proposals for a European Defence Force and European Foreign Policy - the NATO Alliance and the UN have their place - a European Force wouldn’t increase capacity but create an additional drain on our resources.
- Demanding a ‘Fair Deal’ for Wales and the UK - the CAP is outdated and outmoded
- Saving the £140 million pa that is estimated to be the cost of decamping to Strasbourg every month - not to mention the carbon footprint at an estimated 20,000 tonnes
- Holding the bureaucrats to account and shining a light into the dark corners of Europe
- Upholding human rights
- Supporting Animal Welfare measures
- Keeping the focus on the 3Gs - Global competitiveness, Global Poverty and Global Warming
