How can I get involved in my community? How can I make a difference?
There are hundreds of ways that we can all make a contribution to our communities. From being part of a Parent Teachers Association, to undertaking voluntary work in a hospice or with a young offenders support group; from sharing our skills with others, to standing for election to the Council or Assembly, you can make a difference. I’m convinced that many people shy away from making their contribution because they don’t feel they have the skills or the ability or the confidence - that someone else is always better suited to do what needs to be done. I believe we all have something to give and together we can make that difference to our communities, or to our country.
Do you care passionately about a part of your community? About the litter where you live, or the safety of the roads for your children? Do you object to how difficult it is to get a dental appointment, or think you have a solution to a problem in your street? Do you worry about your pension, or the ability of first time buyers to get their first home? Do you believe that Europe intrudes into our lives, or that our farmers and Welsh business get a poor deal from Europe and that we need to campaign to ensure Gordon Brown delivers the Referendum he promised and reneged on. If so, please get involved—you have a right to be heard!
This is politics. It’s a debate about our lives and who dictates how we live and what we do. It’s for all of us - not just politicians. Everyone has a right to have their voice heard. As ’The Amazing Mrs Pritchard’ says in the BBC drama, Politics isn’t rocket science! If you think you can make a difference please get in touch - let’s make the voice of sensible folk heard!
